621 pcs (216 double stadia, 13 tubs, 296 aisle steps, 59 walls, 14 stairs, 23 platform pieces)
Canada’s first soccer-specific stadium, BMO Field underwent various renovations during the winter of 2014/2015 to accommodate the growing number of soccer fans who pack the stadium all summer to see MLS’s Toronto FC.
Pre-Con was proud to supply and install the original stadia in 2006 and was the chosen supplier once again for the Phase 1 expansion.
Phase 1 added 8,400 more seats to the east and west sides of the stadium for a combined total of 30,000 seats, 12 new Executive Suites, two party suites and a Loge Box along with new washrooms and concessions. That equals 621 total pieces of custom precast components consisting of 216 double stadia, 13 tubs, 296 aisle steps, 14 stairs and 13 platforms.
A major challenge to this project was that Pre-Con needed to install the majority of the precast elements in February 2015, which was the coldest month ever on record in Toronto where temperatures never climbed above 0 degrees Celsius. With temperatures as low as -25.5 degrees and a wind chill of -40 degrees Celcius, there were six working days lost due to high winds and extreme cold, as this project is steps from Lake Ontario.
To ensure the completion date of the May 1st opening, Pre-Con’s erection crews went above and beyond working off shift & extra hours to complete our work on site three days ahead of schedule.
